Blake Fitness Philosophy

Blake Fitness Philosophy

Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person’s physical, emotional, and mental states.

Carol Welch

Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.

John F. Kennedy

Your Fingerprint

You might be thinking, those quotes are good and… golf clap… great use of the buzz word “holistic” but, you didn’t tell me the Blake Fitness philosophy on how physical and mental health is achieved?

You might wonder if we recommend a keto, paleo, atkins or some other newfangled diet regime? Will we weight lift, do yoga and pilates, or maybe crossfit our way to physical prowess and tipping the scales in our favor? And can anyone possibly blame you for wanting to anticipate and brace yourself if there is going to be any kumbaya singing or guided meditations to put us in the right frame of mind? You might want to know if Blake Fitness is the right match for you and we don’t blame you.

When we say, “holistic” we mean that we like to get a complete sense of you, your goals, your struggles mentally and physically, your current eating and exercising habits and from your individual data, we customize your health and fitness plan accordingly.

When it comes to the logistics of nutrition and physical fitness there are any number of fads and trends and weeding through them to find what is right for you is a daunting process. We work off the “fingerprint principle”. One of the first things we learn as children as it pertains to fingerprints … each one is unique and individual. The “fingerprint principle” suggests that you are unique and individual and what your body and system needs will be different from everyone else, but will be governed by scientific fundamentals and standards.

Our philosophy is to discard dogmatic and trendy approaches that use facets of science for mass application, in favor of applying known science and developing customized plans based on your health and fitness fingerprint.

Nutrition

Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food.

Hippocrates

Bad men live that they may eat and drink, whereas good men eat and drink so that they may live.

Socrates

Let’s start with how we like to eat and fuel our body: Our basic philosophy surrounding nutrition is to eat as close to nature as possible. This means, whole unprocessed foods that are, when possible,  organic and locally sourced. We believe in eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, and grass fed meats if you are a meat eater. Our diet plans take into consideration your current wellness and goals. We believe food is medicine and can have a significant impact when addressing ailments with your health provider. We advocate that popular trends and fads in the dieting arena take elements of science and offer plans that have a positive, short term effectiveness, but can be extreme and sometimes even harmful to certain body types. Our desire is to help individuals make changes by eating a nutritious balanced diet that targets their unique “fingerprint” and promotes a healthy and fit lifestyle.

Fitness

Those that don’t make time for exercise will have to make time for illness.

Edward Stanley

Diving into the deep waters of exercise regimes can be daunting. At Blake Fitness, we understand how overwhelming and how often our mind can deter us from reaching our fitness goals. Good news — we love to do the heavy lifting of finding the right approach in achieving your goals. The art of being fit is a science and a process that requires hard work and determination. We don’t believe in “quick” and “easy” but, we do believe in FUN!

With that said, our approach is to establish a core foundation of muscle, which enables and supports the body. Think about it, when we build houses, we start with a solid and deep foundation. We don’t build our house on sand for it to collapse at the first storm or with pressure, nor do we put all the time and energy into creating a beautiful sports car that has a four cylinder engine and can’t properly move, let alone race. Without a solid core, you are more injury prone and your results will vary.

If you have a solid foundation, but have reached a plateau, we are here to help you fine-tune.

MIND and EMOTION

Your body can withstand almost anything. It’s your mind you need to convince.

Unknown

Rule your mind or it will rule you.

Buddha

You can take a deep breath … we won’t be singing Kumbaya or using guided meditations. For those of you that are disappointed, we work on breathing through exercise and we are very interested in your mental and emotional health ‘fingerprint’ in our holistic approach to your overall health and fitness.

You might be wondering why we are separating our mind from our emotions? Here at Blake Fitness our “mind” is how we think about things and our “emotions” are how we feel about what we are thinking. Remember the last time you were angry for instance? You felt angry because you thought about a situation with your mind and the more you thought about that situation, the more your mind fueled your angry feelings, which grew … UNTIL … your thoughts changed. Quite literally, the moment other thoughts came into your mind that distracted your angry thoughts, your angry feelings decreased. While we are using anger as an example, it is true about literally any of your thoughts and feelings. Your thoughts drive your feelings and your feelings drive your mood and together all of these drive your ACTIONS!

Our mind is a powerful, powerful tool, which is why, when it comes to training our bodies, we must first train our mind and our emotions. Our mind will tell us all of the reasons we can’t. Our emotions of discouragement, fear of failure, frustration and so on will work in tandem with our mind to take action; even when that action is to not act. Here is the trick… Are you ready? Our mind has the ability to be trained and govern over our emotions and actions! You might be thinking that we make this sound easy? Let me dispel that right now – change … any true change is difficult, but ultimately so very worth it!
